John Glaser, CIO of Partners Healthcare in Boston, is moving to the vendor side of the industry -- an industry he says is at a "very rare moment" in its history. After 22 years with Partners Healthcare -- the past 15 as vice president and CIO -- Glaser will join Siemens Healthcare Aug. 16 to head up its Health Services Business Unit as CEO.
In this episode, Glaser talks to Editor Bernie Monegain about why he made the change, his aspirations for his new work and the legacy he leaves at Partners. He also discusses his 11-month stint as adviser to the nation’s health IT chief David Blumenthal, MD. H e discusses meaningful use objectives for health IT and the challenges hospitals and physicians across the country face as they work to meet the government deadlines. Glaser also provides perspective on the nomination of Donald Berwick, MD, to head the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid.
