Two of the nation's largest health information exchanges are now exchanging Direct messages across state borders, officials announced Tuesday.

Kansas Health Information Network, the state's not-for-profit, provider-led health information exchange, has successfully transmitted data from the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas to the Kansas Immunization Registry.

Officials at the Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN) announced Wednesday that they have begun sharing anonymous patient data with BioSense, a public health system coordinated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that systematically tracks hospital emergency department visits.
