As CIO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Halamka is responsible for all clinical, financial, administrative, and academic information technology serving 3,000 doctors, 14,000 employees, and two million patients. At Harvard Medical School, Halamka oversees all educational research and administrative computing for about 18,000 faculty and 3,000 students. He oversees clinical and administrative data exchange in Massachusetts as Chairman of NEHEN, and as co-Chair of the HIT Standards Committee, Halamka facilitates the process of electronic standards harmonization among stakeholders across the nation.
