Eric Hartz, MD, is the chief medical information officer at CHE Trinity Health in Plymouth, Mich., in the Greater Detroit area. Prior to joining CHE Trinity in 2012, he was CMIO at Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he also practiced medical oncology. EMMC received the 2008 Davies Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the implementation and use of health information technology. Hartz attended undergraduate school at the University of Illinois in Urbana before attending medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Hartz completed his internal medicine training and medical oncology fellowship at the Ohio State University Hospitals in Columbus. Hartz is interested in patient safety initiatives, including development of decision support tools and standardized order sets. He has presented tutorials on development of patient safety rules/alerts at the American Medical Informatics Association annual meeting, and has traveled around the country assisting in standardized order set development.
