Geisinger health system was founded in 1915. It is a physician-led health care system dedicated to healthcare, education, research and service spanning 43 counties of 20,000 square miles. The organization serves approximately 2.6 million people and has 37 community practice sites. It employs about 15,000 people and has about 900 licensed inpatient beds.
In 2010, Geisinger Medical Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center were awarded the National Research Corporation’s Consumer Choice Award. The system was also recognized by Healthcare Purchasing News as one of the nation’s top healthcare supply chain programs to watch in 2011.
