The 2012 award season has just ended and one of the highest honors to be bestowed upon an executive in healthcare IT is the award named in honor of John E. Gall Jr., who pioneered the implementation of healthcare information systems at El Camino Hospital in the 1960s.

We have all won an award of some sort, whether it a spelling bee as a child, an award for placing in a sporting event or as recognition for a job well done and it felt personally rewarding. In our careers, awards are a positive affirmation from the outside world of our work performance judged.

According to an August CHIME survey, 28 percent of CIOs expect to qualify for stimulus funding in the first six months of fiscal year 2011, which begins on October 1, 2010. An additional 62 percent said they expect to qualify between April 1, 2011, and September 30, 2012 - the end of Stage 1 of the incentive program.

The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) has launched CIO State Network (StateNet), an online communication and resource network for healthcare chief information officers to keep abreast of state matters related to the HITECH Act and other state health IT activity. It’s a great idea and a strategic move for CHIME.
