Welcome to the first blog for HIMSS Career Services! My name is Helen Figge, Senior Director of Career Services at HIMSS and excited to connect with you. I am a pharmacist by trade but have experience in various aspects of healthcare including teaching, research, grant writing, clinical practice, industrial sales and healthcare practice management. I’ve been involved in the various government initiatives including workforce development programs, and have volunteered on various national pharmacy committees - most recently serving as Chair of the Ambulatory Care Informatics Section of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and also volunteering as a Board member for HIMSS NY. And I’m excited to say that it is truly a great time to pursue health IT employment and career advancement opportunities since the U.S. Department of Labor estimates that 3.2 million healthcare jobs will be created between now and 2018.
HIMSS Career Services very much wants to support these efforts from its various strategic vantage points.
We wanted to announce HIMSS Career Services within the HIMSS Professional Development Division. HIMSS realizes that there are now unprecedented opportunities for health IT employment and career advancement for its members and regardless of being an experienced health IT professional or an emerging professional with 5 years or less of experience – the HIMSS portal is geared to support.
HIMSS recently refreshed and relaunched the Career Services portal where you can go to find jobs posted and you can also post your resume for viewing HIMSS JobMine. This is a special resource for job seekers because you can actually sign up for daily email alerts, and get insight into who is hiring. The Career Services site is also populated with such things as interviewing tips, resume writing templates, cover letter templates and much more.
