Well, the most influential meeting in 2012 just ended with a record breaking crowd, record breaking attendance and record breaking speaking engagements that level set every known topic out there in health IT today.  The crowds were relentless in their learning of the nuances and topics in health IT and the Career Services Center saw record breaking attendance at each and every presentation – standing room only at all of the presentations!

First our Career Services Center Update.  The Career Services Center was visited by a few 1,000 attendees – looking for employment, seeking to employ and networking with others in similar career paths. The energy within the Annual Conference Career Services Center was overwhelming.  Topics covered during the formal presentations on Tuesday February 21, 2012:  Making Friends and Influencing Change: Building a High-impact Career; Advance Your Career through Personal Branding; Looking for on-the-job HIT experience? Why You Should Consider a Community Health Center!; Session with Emerging Professional Poster Presenters and a special presentation:  The Perfect Resume.  Then on Wednesday, February 22, 2012: Health IT & the Wild, Wild; Entry Certification - Opening the Door for Health IT Careers; PM Social Media and Job Seeking: The How To's and Don'ts; What Makes a Successful Healthcare IT Professional?; Career Development in Informatics: An Educational Model from a Non-Academic Perspective.  And finally, on Thursday, February 23, 2012:   Leading the Transformation of Healthcare IT; The Importance of Diversity in Healthcare; eLearning Academy Demo - Where Healthcare Education Meets IT Innovation.

Needless to say those in attendance were enthusiastic about the plethora of  information to further one’s career path.  Yours truly moderated all of the Career Services Center sessions for audience questions and answers and I learned so much too!

And a quick recap of our keynotes:  ABC news Nightline anchor Terry Moran moderated a session with Donna Brazile, political strategist and Dana Perino, former White House press secretary.  They discussed and dissected the current political landscape and healthcare reform.  Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, Farzad Mostashari, MD, ScM, National Coordinator for Health IT, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Dan Buettner, founder of Blue Zones and world-renowned explorer all took turns as keynotes at this year’s Annual Conference.  Each one seasoned and experienced in their line of work and thought, gave phenomenal presentations of insight and opportunities for all to learn from.

So the HIMSS Annual Conference 2012 and of course HIMSS Career Services Center delivered on its promise: to provide insightful and innovative presentations all aimed at furthering and providing insight into health IT topics and of course health IT career paths.  Networking, question and answer and other opportunities to connect with the speakers was also in demand all in support of our member’s career successes!

So if you missed this year’s event – you better start planning on attending HIMSS Annual Conference 2013 in New Orleans – that event will build on this year’s wow factor but add a factor of 10!

And remember...Be passionate about your career path and strive to make a difference and learn, learn…learn.  Technology is only the enabler; individuals will be the “transformers” of health IT in the years to come!
