Here at Professional Development, Career Services we always support the need for our members to distinguish themselves when attempting to position their career tracks. Because often times an applicant for an open position needs to have the “edge” above the others applying for the same career role.  The CPHIMS is the HIMSS professional certification program.  Individuals who meet eligibility criteria and successfully complete the CPHIMS exam is designated a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS).The CPHIMS credential provides both internal and external rewards. It is a mechanism to validate your skill, knowledge and abilities.

So, we have some exciting news for those who want to earn the CPHIMS distinction, but may not have the time allotted to leave their current work environment for preparation.  The HIMSS eLearning Academy has scheduled a CPHIMS Blended Learning Course. The purpose of this venue is to get participants comfortable with the CPHIMS exam material and format and provide self evaluation for a person’s preparation for the exam.  Additionally, it provides a venue for those seeking to sit for the CPHIMS exam to brush up on key areas of health care IT and identify areas for study/review. Click here for the event.  The sessions will be held from May 31st, 2012 to June 5, 2012.

The trainer for this CPHIMS venue will be Susan Wozniak, MPH, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, Senior Business Analyst, Allscripts. And if you have any additional questions about this event please contact:  Michele Brouse at mbrouse@himss.org.

It is also exciting to note that the HIMSS eLearning Academy continues to provide virtual access to a variety of educational resources to those with minimal capacity to travel to educational venues.  The staff is top notch and includes:  eLearning Academy (Robert Oakes, Manager, Distance Education, roakes@himss.org); General Inquires (Michele Brouse, Manager, Distance Education, mbrouse@himss.org ); Director of the Program (Mary Beth Micucci, Director, Distance Education, mmicucci@himss.org) and Virtual Events (Adam Bazer, Manager, Distance Education, abazer@himss.org).  Additionally, there are complementary sessions as well as paid sessions so check out the website for other programs executed by the HIMSS eLearning Academy team

So as you review the site and see the breadth of education at your fingertips, you will be amazed at just how easy it is to keep in step with the ever changes we are seeing in healthcare today.

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available and remember...Be passionate about your career path and strive to make a difference and learn, learn…learn.  Technology is only the enabler; individuals will be the “transformers” of health IT in the years to come!
