Careers continue to evolve and need consistent nurturing and fine tuning to stay one head above the competition. Besides degrees, credentials and experiences, “other” pieces seem to play a role in career development too. Professional Development, Career Services recognizes this fact. Thus HIMSS Career Services created a first ever event to support these initiatives at the Annual Conference 2013 in New Orleans. The Career Services Institute will be held on Tuesday, March 5th, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm at the Marriott Convention Center. The HIMSS Career Services Institute (CSI) is open to all HIMSS13 participants and is an opportunity for attendees to network and will focus on supporting the various pieces that go into a health IT career – those soft and transferable skills we often hear about. The program will support attendees who are entry-level, intermediate, and advanced-level professionals, currently in the health IT field or wanting to enter the field and who are seeking career guidance and possible job opportunities. The one-day event is entitled: IS YOUR PERSONAL BRAND CONNECTED…OR UNPLUGGED? The ABCs of Authentically Standing out From the Crowd: Appearance, Behavior, Communication. If you are interested in learning to turn problems into solutions, improving your social skills and strengths and minimize your career weaknesses then this one-day, free event is a must attend event for you. We all realize that the immediate positive impact and the potential long-term contributions a candidate will make to an organization is critical and based on organization “fit” on multiple fronts: culture and values; commitment to team and service; career goals, objectives; style – communication and leadership; personality and character and integrity are some attributes perceived as invaluable to hiring an individual for a healthcare IT role today.

Parks, AICI CIP is presenting this one day workshop and is an international image and business etiquette consultant and the founder of The Parks Image Group, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia and understands these facts. Her specialty is creating custom corporate workshops on professional image and business etiquette. She has spent more than 25 years in international business, working in human resources, financial planning and management roles with companies. Our global supporter this year is Dell, but University of Michigan, New Orleans BioDistrict, Department of Health, New Orleans and ASHHRA also are supporting this exciting venue.
