HIMSS Professional Development and Informatics continues to move forward with creating and facilitating programs in support of the nursing community. Creating opportunities for the nursing profession to tap into and learn from other nurse executives about the empowerment of an informatics career pathway is a major HIMSS initiative. To date, we have had two successful nursing informatics events: SHARP HealthCare and the Cleveland Clinic. Both were sold out events offering a learning environment that built upon career portfolios and simultaneously enhancing the knowledge of nurses when implementing information technology. This ultimately supports enhancing nursing workflow, promotes patient safety and yields quality outcomes that improve patient care.
We are now offering another phenomenal venue being held at Baylor Health Care Systems; registration is now open. This event at Baylor Health Care Systems in Irving, TX will be held on Friday, September 28th, 2012. Please visit the website for more information.
In these educational sessions, nurses have the opportunity to learn from the nation’s leaders in Nursing Informatics. These special nursing events offer an opportunity to participate in educational sessions related to nursing health IT and management experiences; provide the participants an opportunity to interact with colleagues and nationally recognized nursing leaders with consideration of exchanging knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned from a leadership perspective; participate in networking opportunities to expand one’s reach in the industry and recognizing the latest trends in nursing health IT as presented by nationally recognized subject matter experts.

Also, understanding the implications of meaningful use for nurses will be invaluable and can impact your organization from a variety of vantage points. This event will be an opportunity to help participants understand all of the various pieces to the puzzle of healthcare informatics.
And stay tuned for more information as it becomes available and remember...Be passionate about your career path and strive to make a difference and learn, learn…learn. Technology is only the enabler; individuals will be the “transformers” of health IT in the years to come!
