2012 HIMSS Award Season is Now Open

The HIMSS staff and our many HIMSS volunteers are preparing for yet another great HIMSS Annual Conference to be held in New Orleans March 3 through 7, 2013 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.  So, get ready because not only will there be one of kind educational venues but also our awards program event specifically designed to honor those great HIMSS men and women who have contributed their talents in support of the HIMSS mission: “To lead healthcare transformation through the effective use of health information technology.”

HIMSS utilizes awards to recognize the special contributions of individuals, groups and organizations to advance the healthcare profession as engrained in the HIMSS mission. These special contributions may vary widely due to the diversity of the HIMSS membership and the broad definition of the healthcare professions that are represented. Additionally, sponsorship of these awards and nomination of recipients comes from components within HIMSS and often with collaboration from other allied professional societies, academia, and businesses.

The call for HIMSS 2012 award nominations is now open. The various awards recognize those individuals who have given back to the professions that they work in and nurture every day.  Award recipients will be recognized at the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans, March, 2013. All HIMSS members are encouraged to nominate those who have made lasting contributions within the Society and to the greater healthcare community.  Call for nominations will close October 15, 2012.

There are many categories of awards and include:

Industry Awards: ACCE-HIMSS Excellence in Clinical Engineering and Information Technology Synergies Award; CHIME-HIMSS John E. Gall, Jr. CIO of the Year Award; Nursing Informatics Leadership Award; Physician IT Leadership Award; SHS-HIMSS Excellence in Healthcare Management Engineering / Process Improvement Award.  Service Awards: The Evelyn Award; Distinguished Fellows Service Award; John A. Page, Outstanding Service Award; Founders Leadership Award; Outstanding SIG Member Award.  Publications: Book of the Year. Also, you may want to consider the HIMSS Foundation scholarships.  The HIMSS Foundation annually awards scholarships to HIMSS members who have achieved academic excellence and have the potential to be future leaders in the healthcare information and management systems industry. Ten scholarships will be awarded this year to the student(s) deemed most deserving as determined by the HIMSS Foundation Scholarship Review Board.  For more details, visit scholarship awards.
