The IT department at UNC Health Care prides itself on cutting edge innovations and, most of all, teamwork. "One of the reasons UNC Health Care is a great place to work is the commitment by employees to help the organization become one of the best learning/teaching hospitals in the country," said CIO John Baba.

He explained how the organization developed its own EMR, and is one of the select group of hospitals in the country so far to achieve certification for meaningful use: "It took all of IT to achieve this goal, and I was impressed with the commitment of the staff."

Since the organization achieved EHR Alternative Certification for Healthcare Providers, or EACH, Baba said, many other major university medical centers contacted him and his team for advice – something teaching hospitals are used to, considering their penchant for being role models to their peers.
