RANK: #5 (LARGE HOSPITALS)
Millennials in the workplace can be a daunting challenge to organizations that aren't quite sure how to handle them. But Chris Belmont, CIO of Ochsner Health System, sees value in young talent – so much so that a large portion of his department's recent hiring streak is made up of 22- to 30-year-old workers.
"They brought a lot of energy," he said. "And we took a Silicon Valley approach to them: a lot of informal meeting spaces, casual areas. We even put an Xbox Kinect in our break room." Belmont knew the culture of his department needed to change, and although it was an adjustment for the legacy folks, he said the fresh perspective is benefitting all involved. "People work at their own pace, whenever the juices are flowing. When we built our new space, we did it as New Orleans neighborhoods; we have different neighborhoods in our department and each adopted their own personality."
