RANK: #9 (MEDIUM HOSPITALS)
Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children judges CMIO David Milov on performance: If he's producing what he's supposed to on time and under budget. "But if I do that at the expense of my employees, I will not stay in my job," Milov said. That pretty much sums up the IT culture at Nemours.
The hospital hires good employees and does everything it can to keep them. When IT employees began leaving a couple of years ago for lucrative consulting jobs, the hospital raised salaries. Children of all Nemours employees receive free healthcare until age 18. The department schedules group activities such as lunches and barbecues. But with those perks and benefits come expectations.
Every employee in the IT department must be certified in at least one application that the hospital uses. "When you know that everyone you work with has this minimal competency, it makes you feel good that you work with them," Milov said.
