Blessing's motto: If employees are happy, they'll do good work

Blessing Health System does everything it can to make its employees feel valued and part of a team. And for a good reason: “Our assumption as an organization is that if people are not happy in their jobs, they are going to leave us or do substandard work,” said Todd Haverstock, administrative director, IS service and infrastructure.

At Blessing, workplace satisfaction rests on the twin pillars of transparency and trust. Hospital administrators, for example, share budgetary and other hospital information with staff ASAP, creating a sense of connectedness and engagement throughout the facility. IT management strives to be approachable: Employees aren’t afraid to discuss departmental issues and challenges with them. The department regularly surveys staff, looking for little problems before they become big problems. And no good job goes unrecognized.

“We put our employees first and our customers first," said Lea Ann Eickelschulte, administrative director, IS applications. "Everything else seems to fall into place when your follow that path."
